Optional: tools, your own boards, stretchers, push pins,
Canvas: primed and unstretched. You may bring pieces pre-cut to size as well as a larger piece several yards long. We will paint an average of 2 to 5 paintings a day, most likely going to a different site for each painting session. You will want the flexibility of choice of painting size and format. Do not bring ONLY small sizes. It is possible to stretch canvases in the studio and then unstretch them for transporting home (for larger sizes). Otherwise you will clip or tape canvas to boards. I suggest bringing at least 4 square yards of canvas, more if you are comfortable working big, some cut to size and some rolled in a cardboard tube which you can also use for shipping home (some paintings will still be wet when you leave and will have to shipped later). You may also bring other painting surfaces such as panels or paper if you wish. If you run out of canvas, it can be purchased in town on Wednesday, but it is very expensive.
Paints:
- Cadmium Yellow Light
- Cadmium Red Light
- Alizarin Crimson
- Ultramarine Blue
- Cerulean Blue Hue or Veridian
- Raw Umber
- Titanium or Mixed White (large tube)

Medium: Bring either: 1 part damar varnish 2 parts stand oil or refined linseed oil* or a commercially prepared medium.
* Do not bring turpentine or anything with turpentine in it on an airplane. You can complete the medium mixture when you arrive.
NOTES: Do not bring turpentine or any obviously flammable liquids. Your oil and varnish, can be premixed in a linseed oil jar – turpentine added later.
Be as portable as possible, so that everything you need for a morning of painting can be with your folding easel, i.e. paints, brushes, medium, palette, palette knife, canvas, brushwasher, rags. You will not be carrying turpentine. We will carry that separately.
Bring a wide brim, shade-producing hat and a white long-sleeved painting shirt to protect against sunburn.
Bring soap, shampoo, and washcloth, as these are not provided.
