Lodging
Our accommodations in Provence
We stay in the tiny hamlet of Les Bassacs, 30 miles east of Avignon. The house is 16th-century Provencal with traditional terracotta floors, low wood beams, fireplace, spiral staircases and periwinkle blue shutters. Outdoors, you can enjoy the shady courtyard and terraces which overlook the Luberon Valley or take a dip in the 9-meter swimming pool.
Each room is unique with its own set of attributes. Most beds are twin-size. Bathrooms are off the hall. A few rooms with private bath are available at additional cost. If you desire a private bath, please request it on the registration form.
There is a well-stocked library for students to use. The painting studio, the dining room and terrace look out over the swimming pool towards the Alpilles hills, and take in the astounding red ochres of Roussillon and the spectacular village perché of Gordes.
Enjoy the terrace and the pool, often accompanied by a beautiful sunset, before joining Maggie and fellow painters for a convivial evening meal.
The food is inspired by fresh local produce and has played an important part in making Les Bassacs a success. Carefully prepared meals, with a distinctly Provençal flavour, are served with local wines. The day begins with a breakfast of croissants and freshly baked bread from the local boulangerie. Lunch is a buffet, or sometimes a picnic in the countryside. The three course dinner is served in the dining room overlooking the valley.
Our hosts can accommodate a vegetarian diet. If you have other dietary needs or restrictions, please inquire if they can be met.
